Setting up the VAT display option in Auctiva Commerce

Value added tax (VAT) is a commonly applied tax in the European Union and the UK. With the Auctiva Commerce 2.6 release we added the capability to display your product prices inclusive and exclusive of VAT.

  1. Step 1: First, go to the Tax Codes page in the merchant admin (Store > Taxes > Tax Codes). There you will see a VAT Display Rate box where you can enter your standard VAT rate. Enter your standard VAT rate and click Submit.
  2. Step 2: After you enter your standard VAT rate you will be given the option to Show or Not Show the VAT rate on your product prices. Choose the option you like and click Submit. If you chose the Show VAT in price option your product prices will now be shown inclusive and exclusive of VAT.
  3. Step 3: Confirm that you have the correct Tax Codes set for your products. If you want a product to be non-taxable select the --NON TAXABLE-- tax code option. This is an Auctiva Commerce default tax code that cannot be edited or removed. Selecting this option for your non-taxable products will suppress the VAT display functionality, and will prevent the products from being assessed taxes during checkout.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The VAT Display Rate is used for display purposes only! The actual calculation of taxes is based off of your Tax Codes and Tax Rules. Also note that the VAT display option does not affect how the product prices are displayed in the Cart since the application of taxes can be affected by the buyer's location; which may be entered in the Cart.
